Luke Littler couldn’t resist poking fun at Liverpool half an hour before he’s due to play in the final of Night 11 of Premier League Darts.
It was a night to forget for the Reds as they suffered a shock 3-0 defeat at home to Atalanta, a result which puts them on the brink of a Europa League exit.
Littler, on the other hand, has been enjoying a fine evening having made his way to the final in Birmingham thanks to victories over Rob Cross and Luke Humphries.
Aged just 17, Littler would be well within his rights to feel a little nervous as he looks to win a third straight night in the Premier League and solidify his spot at the top of the table.
But his action on his social media would suggest otherwise as moments after his 6-5 win over Humphries, die hard Manchester United fan Littler basked in Liverpool’s misery.
Sharing a graphic of the scoreline on his Instagram story, Littler captioned the post: “Oh dear.”
The inquest at Anfield is officially underway as they were taken to the cleaners by their Italian opponents in the first leg of the quarter-final tie.
Atalanta took the lead in the first half when former West Ham forward Gianluca Scamacca’s low strike somehow squirmed through the body of Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.
Kelleher made two crucial stops to deny Mario Pasalic in the first half, while Darwin Nunez missed a crucial chance and Harvey Elliott hit the crossbar and post with a curling effort when the game was goalless.
But Liverpool were shaky in defence after the break as Scamacca got his second with a well taken left-footed half-volley on the hour before Pasalic got his goal with a finish from close range on the rebound.
Liverpool need another European miracle to advance to the semi-finals ahead of the second leg in Bergamo next Thursday, which will be live on the talkSPORT network.
The winner of the tie will face the winner of the Benfica vs Marseille quarter-final, with Benfica winning the first leg in Portugal 2-1.
