Bayer Leverkusen extended their remarkable unbeaten run to 49 games with a stunning late equaliser against Roma.
Recording a 2-2 draw on the night, Xabi Alonso’s side progressed into the Europa League final with a 4-2 aggregate score to keep their treble dream alive.
The German side held a 2-0 lead from the first leg before two Leandro Paredes penalties put Roma in control of the tie.
But an own goal from Gianluca Mancini left Alonso’s side smelling blood as they eyed a late comeback – something that has become a trademark this season.
With just a minute left of injury time, Josip Stanisic found the net to cement their spot in the Europa League final and keep their stunning unbeaten run going.
The German side have enjoyed a quite remarkable campaign in which they had managed to avoid defeat for the entirety of the season so far.

It’s been almost 12 months since they last tasted defeat, losing to VFL Bochum on the final day of last season.

As well as reaching the DFB-Pokal final which takes place at the end of May, Bayer Leverkusen also caused a major upset by winning the Bundesliga crown.
