Scott McTominay has been named as the player that is head and shoulders above his Manchester United teammates in training.
That is according to Red Devils centre-back Harry Maguire, who has hailed the Scotland international’s professionalism and dedication.
And his hard work has clearly paid off with McTominay boasting ten goals and three assists from 42 games in all competitions this season.
Only United captain Bruno Fernandes and striker Rasmus Hojlund have banged in more goals than the 27-year-old.
Maguire, who has been named in England’s provisional Euro 2024 squad despite nursing a minor muscle injury, was speaking to talkSPORT’s Michael Gray ahead of the FA Cup final against Manchester City on Saturday – live on talkSPORT.
The ex-Sunderland left-back asked who the best trainer at Carrington is, to which the defender said: “I think I’d always go with Scott McTominay.
“It’s probably not surprising people, but he trains brilliantly and he covers big distances.
“He works his socks off and he’s always in the gym doing extra (sessions), so I’ll go with Scotty.”
Former Leicester star Maguire also declared the future looks good for United, despite the club ending the campaign in eighth spot – their lowest Premier League finish.
Maguire lauded youngsters Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo, with the United academy graduates tipped for greatness.
He remarked: “They’ve been magnificent this season, they’ve come into a situation where we haven’t performed as well as we’d have liked.
“We’re nowhere near where we should be in the Premier League.
“So they’ve come into a difficult situation in a difficult season in a difficult environment, and they’ve handled themselves brilliantly.
“So if we can take away positives from the season, we’ve got an amazing cup final to look forward to.
“But also the young boys have come in and shown great moments throughout the season – that’s giving us a bright future.”
He added: “They’ve come into a really difficult season, we’ve had our problems – a ridiculous amount of injuries – and they’ve come into it.
“It’s probably not been the greatest environment, because we’ve not been winning as many football matches as we should do at this club.
“But it’ll make them stronger, it’ll make them better and for sure they are going to have big futures at this club.”
