Alvaro Morata will lead Spain out against England in the Euro 2024 final this weekend.
The striker is set to lead the line for La Roja as they look to win their fourth European Championships in Berlin, live on talkSPORT.
He has started all but one of his country’s games in Germany as they cruised through the tournament, winning every match they have played.
Morata has scored one goal so far but will be eyeing another in the showpiece should he recover from a freak incident that occurred after their semi-final clash.
Ahead of the final, talkSPORT.com has taken a look at his overall record for Spain and when he was made captain by Luis de la Fuente…
Morata’s Spain record
Morata boasts some very impressive stats for Spain.
The 31-year-old has made a total of 79 caps for his country, which makes him the 19th most-capped player in their history.
In those appearances, he has scored 36 goals.
One of those came against Croatia in the group stage of Euro 2024, with that strike putting him above David Silva in the all-time rankings.
Morata is the fourth-highest scorer ever for his country and a couple more in this weekend’s final could see him move up to third and equal Fernando Torres’ tally.
He is also now the joint-third top scorer at the European Championships, level with England icon Alan Shearer and Antoine Griezmann.
Spain’s all-time top scorers
- David Villa – 98 caps, 59 goals
- Raul – 102 caps, 44 goals
- Fernando Torres – 110 caps, 38 goals
- Alvaro Morata – 79 caps, 36 goals
- David Silva – 125 caps, 35 goals
- Fernando Hierro – 89 caps, 29 goals
- Fernando Morientes – 47 caps, 27 goals
- Emilio Butragueno – 69 caps, 26 goals
- Alfredo Di Stefano – 31 caps, 23 goals
- Sergio Ramos – 180 caps, 23 goals
When did he become captain?
Morata was handed the permanent Spain captaincy last year.
He was named skipper by manager De la Fuente in March 2023.
The striker had previously had the armband for his country, however, he was officially given the title ahead of the Euro 2024 qualifiers.
Morata is the most-capped player in the Spain squad in Germany, with a new generation of stars replacing older heads such as Sergio Ramos and Sergio Busquets.
Speaking when he was given the captaincy role, he said: “It’s incredible.
“I’ve been here with Dani [Carvajal, vice captain] since we were two kids. It’s a tremendous joy. Not to be captain, but to defend the shirt of my country.
“Our role now is to help the newcomers. There’s a fantastic group and we don’t need a lot of help, but that’s what it’s all about. If people need something they can count on us.”
