Casemiro’s nightmare week continued with Manchester United fans slamming him for his part in Arsenal’s opening goal at Old Trafford.
The Brazilian’s horrendous campaign hit a new low after he was at major fault for Leandro Trossard’s near-post finish.
After passing the ball to United goalkeeper Andre Onana, who subsequently went long, Casemiro was far too slow to get back in line with his fellow defenders.
The Brazilian’s sluggish run allowed Ben White to find Kai Havertz with a pass over the top where the German would have otherwise been offside.
By the time any other Red Devils covering defenders arrived on the scene Havertz had squared the ball to Trossard to tuck home.
Gary Neville told Sky Sports: “Casemiro has taken some criticism in recent weeks and he’s going to take some more.
“He goes to split wide, once Onana plays it, he has to get up. He has to get quicker than that. Once he doesn’t, he’s in trouble.
“Trossard does what every good forward does.”
He added: “That’s a basic error from Casemiro… no excuses.”
And Man United fans agreed, with one fan writing on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Casemiro costing us again.”
Another said: “Absolutely unforgivable from Casemiro there…..He’s literally given up the last month.”
A third joked: “Casemiro with the sort of run you do across a road to show a car you’ve noticed them waiting.”
Casemiro was already a surprise starter as an emergency central defender again following United’s 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace just six days earlier.
The 32-year-old’s defending was branded ‘atrocious’ as he was at fault for two of Palace’s goals in the Selhurst Park humbling.
Following the match, Jamie Carragher claimed Casemiro’s time at the top level is over as he urged the midfielder to ‘call it a day’.
Casemiro, who also faced taunts that he looked like he was playing in Soccer Aid, then missed out on Brazil’s Copa America squad in midweek.
