Tyson Fury is not interested in Anthony Joshua until after he fights Oleksandr Usyk.
The ‘Gypsy King’ will face Usyk for the undisputed titles on May 18, and long-term rival Joshua will be hoping to finally earn a shot at his fellow Briton when the saga is complete.
It is expected Fury will need to tackle the Ukrainian twice before entertaining any bout with Joshua, given an immediate rematch clause has been inserted into the fight contract.
And Fury has bluntly insisted Joshua will need to wait in line if he wants an opportunity.
“The way I look at it is – Joshua’s a dosser and he’s gotta wait his turn,” Fury said at a press conference in Morecambe.
“Because he had his chance with Usyk and he lost fair and square.
“I’m not sure who witnessed that fight, I’m not sure where you were, maybe you were on holiday.
“But he actually did already lose to Usyk, not once but twice. So that puts him at the back of the queue. You can’t just overlook Usyk.”
Usyk snatched the WBA, IBF and WBO world titles from Joshua by outpointing him in September 2021.
And despite making improvements, AJ was unable to win them back in a rematch with Usyk in August 2022.
Fury is certainly putting all of his attention into facing his current foe Usyk, and looks in brilliant shape.
The 35-year-old has even impressed fans in training footage with his father John Fury, as he continues to step up preparations.
H.E. Turki Alalshikh (chairman of Saudi’s General Entertainment Authority who stage fights in the Kingdom) has suggested he would like to match the winner of the fight with Joshua, who is patiently waiting to make his next move.
Fury’s co-promoter Bob Arum even went as far as suggesting the pair could meet at Wembley Stadium in 2024, if Fury is indeed victorious and a step-aside deal with Usyk can be agreed.
AJ has shown impressive form since linking with new trainer Ben Davison, dispatching of Otto Wallin in December 2023, before stopping Francis Ngannou in March.
Some have suggested Joshua could go into any potential contest with Fury as the favourite, taking into account his scintillating displays and the Gypsy King’s lacklustre last showing against Ngannou.
Fury is clearly uninterested in talk of the British battle, and can make history by beating Usyk and becoming the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999.
The boxing world will always want to see the pair finally go to war, but will have to wait patiently for now.
