Phil Foden is set to rejoin his England teammates after briefly leaving camp for the birth of his third child.
The Manchester City star left Germany on Wednesday to join his partner Rebecca Cooke, with whom he’s had his first two children with, but is heading back on Thursday night with a view to take part on Friday’s training session.
The Manchester City man started in all of the Three Lions’ Group C games as they secured their spot in the knockout stages.
Foden started in all of the Three Lions’ Group C games as they secured their spot in the knockout stages.
The 24-year-old will thus be available on Sunday, when England will play Slovakia in the last 16.
Foden and Cooke announced in April they were expecting another child.
They have two children – a son Ronnie who is five and daughter True who is two years old.
Foden has started all of England’s games in Germany so far.
He played the full 90 minutes in England’s 1-0 win over Serbia, featuring on the left side of their attack.
He then appeared from the off in the respective 1-1 and 0-0 draws with Denmark and Slovenia before being substituted.
Despite missing preparations, Foden is expected to start for England against Slovakia in Gelsenkirchen.
England boss Southgate has struggled to strike the right balance among his wealth of attacking options, and England have scored just twice in three matches so far.
But he is not likely to make many changes to the team.
Southgate has come in for heavy criticism, but England have a favourable route to glory and remains convinced they will hit form.
“We need the whole team,” Southgate said. “We need the whole team.
“I’m proud of what the players did, they showed the right mentality, they showed bravery in a difficult environment at times.
“They showed patience and we didn’t quite get what they deserved from the game but they have to keep going and in the end things will turn.”
