Rob McElhenney makes two-word Wrexham vs Birmingham prediction in message to Tom Brady

Rob McElhenney has predicted Wrexham and Birmingham’s upcoming League One clash will be an ‘absolute banger’.

The two sides have garnered plenty of interest from across the pond since McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds and NFL legend Tom Brady’s respective investments.

Now, they’re preparing to go head-to-head for the first time since their takeovers, as Wrexham travel to St Andrew’s.

And McElhenney is clearly buzzing for the occasion. 

Taking to X on Saturday, the Wrexham co-chairman wrote: “See you next Monday @TomBrady 😉 Should be an absolute banger.”

McElhenney purchased Wrexham in 2020 with fellow Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds when the club were in the National League.

The ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ docuseries has followed the duo’s journey in navigating running a football club, and McElhenney makes no secret of his love for the NFL, specifically the Philadelphia Eagles, throughout.

Given he would have watched Brady starring for the New England Patriots, Monday’s game will be an occasion he’s been looking forward to since Wrexham’s promotion and Birmingham’s relegation to League One.

Brady, meanwhile, owns 3.3 per cent of the Blues, purchasing shares in August 2023.

There had been reports of the two clubs placing their clash out in the US before the start of the season.

An EFL spokesperson told talkSPORT.com that no formal request was made, though.

And Reynolds has since shut down the claims, too.

One Wrexham fan on social media pointed out that such a move would go against the ‘Guiding Principles’ set out after their takeover.

The Deadpool star replied saying: “I agree. And that’s why there have been no talks.”

Birmingham and Wrexham last played each other in 2006, with the Blues sealing a 4-1 win in the second round of the League Cup.

Wrexham currently sit top of League One after their 3-0 derby day victory over cross-border rivals Shrewsbury.

Meanwhile, Birmingham sit in the play off places in fourth with a game in hand on their opponents after their clash against Exeter was postponed due to the international break.
