Phil Foden and Bunny Shaw have scooped their respective Men’s and Women’s Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year awards.
Foden has been Manchester City’s standout performer this season as Pep Guardiola’s side continue their push for a fourth-consecutive Premier League title and second league and FA Cup double in a row.
The 23-year-old picked up a whopping 42 per cent of the vote, beating Arsenal star Declan Rice in second, to land this year’s award and succeed teammate Erling Haaland.
Meanwhile, Man City forward Shaw capped off a fine campaign by scooping the women’s award.
Shaw has netted a superb 21 goals and three assists in 18 WSL games this season as Manchester City close in on the title.
She pipped Chelsea star Lauren James to the award.
It is the second time City have claimed the prize in both the men’s and women’s categories following Raheem Sterling and Nikita Parris’ success in 2019.
Foden finished ahead of Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice, while Man City teammate Rodri came third in the voting. The remainder of the top six were made up of Martin Odegaard, Ollie Watkins and Cole Palmer.
Foden has netted 16 times in the Premier League this term and five goals during City’s run to the Champions League quarter-final.
The 23-year-old is set for more success in the coming weeks with City closing in on domestic honours before England begin their quest to win Euro 2024 in Germany next month.
Shaw’s triumph came after a record number of votes were casted for the category.
Shaw and Chelsea’s James drew almost 80 percent of the votes between them with Man City’s Alex Greenwood finishing third and Yui Hasegawa, Elisabeth Terland and Khiara Keating making up the top six.
The Jamaican’s goals have helped fire City to the summit of the WSL and despite currently being sidelined through injury, she looks destined to end the season as a title winner.
