Arsenal vs Aston Villa predictions
Arsenal went into their Champions League game against Bayern Munich as the favourites based on the two teams’ respective performances this season.
But one factor in Bayern’s favour was their superior experience of the latter stages of the Champions League. That, together with a disciplined, counter-attacking game plan, allowed the German giants to escape the Emirates Stadium with a 2-2 draw.
That result leaves the tie wonderfully balanced ahead of Wednesday’s second leg in Munich, but Arsenal – unlike Bayern, for whom the Bundesliga title has already gone – cannot afford to look that far ahead.
Before the return game, Arsenal will do battle with Aston Villa in the Premier League. With Manchester City and Liverpool expected to overcome Luton Town and Crystal Palace respectively, Mikel Arteta’s men could be down to third place by the time this match kicks off. That would add its own pressure.
Having fallen away towards the end of last term, failing to win the title this time around would be a huge disappointment for Arsenal – perhaps even more so than either of their rivals.
Indeed, City have won three in a row before this season, while Liverpool were not expected to be in the mix last summer.
Aston Villa are potentially awkward opponents, but Arsenal have been in formidable form in 2024. They have dropped only two points from a possible 33 since the turn of the year, and that was in a creditable 0-0 draw with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Arsenal look focused and professional right now. They have their eyes on the prize and will do everything they can to get their hands on it.
A meeting with Aston Villa is not the easiest of assignments, but nor is it as daunting as the one awaiting Unai Emery’s side this weekend.
Arsenal vs Aston Villa betting tips
Arsenal will be looking to remain at the top of the Premier League table by beating Aston Villa on Sunday.
Arsenal to win and over 2.5 goals – 7/10 (BetVictor)
Aston Villa still have work to do themselves. As things stand, Italy and Germany are the two countries that will be awarded an additional spot in the Champions League next season.
It looks to be a battle between Germany and England for a fifth berth, and defeats for Liverpool and West Ham United on Thursday did not help the Premier League’s cause.
Villa currently trail fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur on goal difference alone, but their rivals for the final guaranteed Champions League spot have a game in hand.

Villa could therefore do with a positive result in north London on Sunday, while Emery will be determined to get one over on his former employers.
With neither team likely to sit back, goals could be on the cards. As far as the match result is concerned, it is hard to bet against Arsenal at the Emirates.

Second half higher scoring – 21/20 (Sporting Index)
With both teams in midweek action, there is a chance that Sunday’s showdown will be a slow burner.
Aston Villa have had only two full days’ rest before their game at the Emirates, so we should not necessarily expect them to come flying out of the blocks.
Their first priority will be to keep things tight at the back before potentially opening up a bit more later on.
Emery, you feel, would gladly settle for getting in at half-time with the score still 0-0, especially as the home crowd could grow nervy as the minutes tick by.
Arsenal, for their part, will not necessarily rush things if they cannot find a way through early on. Arteta will preach to his players the importance of staying calm and composed, even if he does not always manage that on the touchline.
All things considered, we could see more goals after the interval than before it.

Bukayo Saka to score or assist – 4/6 (Paddy Power)
Bukayo Saka opened the scoring against Bayern Munich with a wonderful finish into the far corner, taking his tally for the campaign to 18. This is already the most productive season of his career and Saka is not done yet.
Fourteen of those goals have come in the Premier League, but the Arsenal forward is not merely a converter of chances.
He has also registered eight assists in the top flight this term and will fancy his chances of reaching double figures.
He has already gone past the 20 mark for goals and assists combined, a feat managed by only six other players.
Aston Villa will have their hands full in keeping Saka quiet this weekend. We reckon they will not completely succeed in that mission.
