Madison Keys was devastated as she was forced to retire from her last-16 Wimbledon match through injury.
Her battle with Jasmine Paolini was already one of the matches of the tournament so far, but it cruelly came to a premature end.
American Keys was 5-2 up in the third set at the All England Club and was seemingly on her way to the quarter-finals.
However, she started struggling with an issue with her leg and Paolini broke her serve.
When the match was at 5-4, Keys took a long medical timeout as she tried to continue.
She was in floods of tears as she valiantly attempted to complete the match.
The former US Open finalist could not hold onto her serve and she was struggling to move.
The very next game, Keys decided she could not carry on and left Court One in tears.
It means to Italian Paolini advances to the last-16 where she will face either Coco Gauff or Emma Navarro.
Speaking on court after Keys’ retirement, Paolini said: “I’m very sorry for her. It’s sad. Really good match. Really tough, lots of up and downs.
“I feel a bit happy but also sad for her because it’s not easy to win like that. I hope you enjoyed the match.
“Rollercoaster. I started really well and was really focused on court but she’s a great player and she raised her level so it was tough to return balls. I was repeating to stay in there, you never know in tennis.
“At the end somehow, I know she retired, but I’m here with the win.”
