England fans will be busy finalising plans to follow this evening’s Euro 2024 quarter-final clash against Switzerland.
The Three Lions have flattered to deceive for almost the entirety of Euro 2024 having relied on a mixture of good luck and individual skill.
England finished top of Group C despite drawing two of their three games due to other results beyond their control going their way.
That ensured Gareth Southgate’s men were on the favourable side of the knockout draw and avoided Germany, France, Portugal, and Spain.
However, England still needed a 95th-minute overhead kick from Jude Bellingham, and a Harry Kane winner in extra-time to complete a 2-1 comeback win over Slovakia last time out.
Switzerland will now represent their first true test of quality, having held Euro hosts Germany to a 1-1 draw before eliminating reigning holders Italy 2-0 in the last-16.

England vs Switzerland: What has been said?
Emmanuel Petit has admitted he feels sorry for Southgate but has no idea what game plan he’s trying to implement.
When quizzed on the England manager, the France legend told Euro Game Day Live: “Sometimes I feel pity for him because I’m pretty sure he’s a nice guy, a good guy.
“Managing the team he has done many good things you know in the past with the national team but he never got silverware.
“This competition looks like what I saw in 2000 with the great generation of English players. [Paul] Scholes, Steven Gerrard and more and more beautiful players.
“And they haven’t done anything. So yes, I can understand the frustration from the fans because I share them.
“But I don’t understand sometimes because I always found it’s choices for the manager. It’s a hard job. But when I look [at] what Southgate tried to do, I have no idea what he wants to do.
“I don’t know what he’s trying to do. The key you know for the English team, is it possession of the ball, is it deep block, is it higher pressure on the opponents? I have no idea.
“And when they have the ball, and when they don’t have the ball, I have no idea what they do. It’s just based on individual’s qualities.”
