Euro 2024 hosts Germany booked their place in the knockout stage as Group A winners, picking up seven points from their three matches, surviving a slight scare on the final day of the group as they needed a 92nd minute equaliser against Switzerland to claim top spot.
The draw against their neighbours followed a comprehensive 5-1 opening night victory over Scotland and a 2-0 win over Hungary which saw them progress to the knockout stage with a game to spare, but still needed to avoid defeat to this Swiss to win the group.
Julian Nagelsmann’s side remain unbeaten in 2024 across all competitions, winning six of their eight matches so far, as the nation seek what would be a record breaking fourth European crown, and their first since 1996.
Denmark drew all three of their group stage matches in Group C, but it was enough to see them finish second in the group behind England and for the semi finalists of three years ago to safely progress through to the last 16.
Kasper Hjulmund’s side finished with an identical record to Slovenia in Group C, but were awarded second place ahead of the Slovenes due to the final tie-breaking tier, their overall record in qualifying for the tournament.
The three draws in the group now mean that the Danes have drawn four of their seven matches in all competitions this year, winning only three of their last eight, but have only lost one of their last 15.
Germany lead the head-to-head between the two sides 15-8 in wins, though interestingly have only won one of their last six against the Danes, with three of the last four meetings ending in draws, most a recently a 1-1 draw in Austria in Euro 2020 warm-up friendly in 2021.
