Tyson Fury is surrounding himself with close friends and family for his upcoming clash with Oleksandr Usyk.
While his wife Paris and his seven children won’t be there cheering him on while he trains at his boxing gym in the Mazuma Stadium complex – the home of Morecambe FC – there are plenty of familiar faces.
Close friend and sparring partner Ty Mitchell is breaking a sweat alongside him while his brother Tommy Fury has also been pictured in the lion’s den.
But perhaps the most important additive to this camp is his father John Fury, who Tyson insists is his ‘secret weapon’.
“Yeah, I’m training hard obviously. I’m in fantastic shape and I’ve got a massive fight coming up,” said Fury during a press conference on Wednesday.
“There’s no room for error, there’s no room for not training right or any other problems so we’ve got to get through it.
“We’re 40 days out, I feel fantastic. I know all boxers say this same old s*** but I actually am having a fantastic training camp.
“I’ve got a good team around me and everything is going to plan. No complaints, I’m working hard.
“I’ve got my secret weapon, my dad in camp this time, so I’ve got my secret weapon over there as well.
“I’ve got Ty Mitchell in, all the boys and the girls are in camp, we’ve got a full circus camp so can’t do anymore really.”
Fury Sr was not in his son’s training camp for his last fight against Francis Ngannou, but he did have a lot to say about it.
‘The Gypsy King’ put on a dismal display against the former UFC heavyweight champion as he narrowly escaped defeat to the boxing novice.
John claims Tyson’s performance had a lot to do with his son surrounding himself with the wrong people before the crossover clash and branded his camp a ‘circus’.
Since then John has been drafted in to help Tyson prepare for his four-belt shoot-out with Usyk on May 18 in Saudi Arabia.
SugarHill Steward remains his head trainer for the fight but his dad is also playing an important part in preparations.
“He brings a spartan regime. It’s old school and he butchers us, but it’s also good to have your family nearby,” Fury added about his father.
“We’re all on the same page, so it’s better for me. As a professional athlete, I want it to be plain sailing with everyone working together and open if they have something to say.”
