Manchester United’s plan is to sell Mason Greenwood this summer amid interest from clubs around Europe, talkSPORT understands.
Napoli are one of the sides to have made contact with the Red Devils over a deal for the striker, who has impressed on loan for Spanish club Getafe this season.
Greenwood joined Getafe on a season-long loan on the final day of last summer’s transfer window.
The move came after a United statement last August said the 22-year-old will continue his career ‘away from Old Trafford’, following an internal investigation into the allegations against him of rape, assault and making threats to kill.
The young striker, who was arrested in January 2022 after images and videos surfaced online, denied the allegations and all charges against him were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February 2023.
United’s new minority owner Jim Ratcliffe later refused to rule out a future at the club for Greenwood.
However, talkSPORT sources understand United want to cash-in on the frontman this summer, with plenty of interest in the Englishman after his first campaign back in football.
Greenwood has managed 16 goal contributions [ten goals, six assists] in 34 appearances for Getafe, who sit tenth in LaLiga.
The Madrid-based club are keen to bring the Englishman back in another loan agreement and have made contact with United over a second deal for the 2024/25 season.
However, Greenwood is believed to be aiming higher than the mid-table club amid interest from some European giants, including Napoli and Atletico Madrid.
Greenwood has one year left to run on his Manchester United contract, which expires in June 2025.
Barcelona were linked with an interest in the Bradford-born forward – who has one senior England cap – earlier this season.
Meanwhile, he has also been offered the chance to switch international allegiances to Jamaica, qualifying through his father, with manager Heimir Hallgrimsson admitting he would ‘love’ Greenwood in his Reggae Boyz team.
