Jurgen Klopp’s emotional Anfield farewell might not go as planned because he’s in danger of being banned.
The Reds boss is set to leave the club this summer after nearly nine years on Merseyside, and his last game is this weekend against Wolves.
The German revealed earlier this year that he didn’t have the energy to be Liverpool manager anymore, but he will leave the club as a legend.
However, should he lose his cool in his final away match against Aston Villa, live on talkSPORT, he won’t be on the touchline for his last game.
Why Klopp could miss his last Liverpool match?
As it stands, the German has been booked twice in the Premier League this season.
But three yellow cards would lead to a one-match touchline ban.
Of course, if this were to happen, he would still be allowed in Anfield to watch the game from the stands, but he wouldn’t be on the sidelines.
Liverpool fans no doubt have something special planned for the manager who won them their first Premier League title, plus a Champions League and various other trophies.
If he wasn’t on the touchline, it would no doubt dampen the mood during the game despite the fact he would still be able to receive the adulation of the Anfield crowd after full-time.
But to avoid any of that, it’s probably wise Klopp stays on Simon Hooper’s good side at Villa Park.
In fairness to Klopp, he has so far avoided a touchline ban this year, but he’s going to be on his best behaviour anyway.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the game, he said: “I’ve known that for a long time [he could be banned]. We could turn it around and say I’ve only had two yellow cards all season. A few of my colleagues got suspended, right?
“I got calmer over the years, obviously. I don’t need to be [on the touchline for the final day], but it would be cool. I will try absolutely everything to not get involved in any kind of ‘discussions’.”
