Noel Gallagher has explained that he didn’t join in with the Poznan as a result of a ‘spectacular’ hangover.
The music legend made headlines after being spotted among the Manchester City fans for their Premier League clash with Fulham at the weekend.
Gallagher joined in wild celebrations as City recorded a 4-0 win over Marco Silva’s side to keep their title charge on track.
But while the former Oasis star pumped his fist in celebration during the match, he drew the line at jumping up at down with his fellow fans.
In a televised clip that has gone viral, thousands of Man City fans could be seen doing the Poznan – a celebration in which supporters embrace each other before jumping up and down with their backs to the pitch.
But Gallagher notably opted not to get involved in an image that will be remembered for years to come.
Some have questioned why Gallagher didn’t partake in the celebration, but the singer-songwriter had a rather good explanation.
Speaking on The Sports Breakfast about being on TV, Gallagher said: “You don’t really know until you leave the ground and your phone explodes.
“I have to say, in my defence, on Saturday I was still feeling the effects of a rather spectacular night out.
“So even if I’d wanted to join in the Poznan I don’t think I’d have been able to!”
Gallagher was then asked if there was any jeopardy in supporting a side as dominant as Man City, to which he said: “I think there’ll be a certain section of the fans who will have no nerves but the people I go with are from a different era so we’ll always have nerves.
“We’ve supported the team for like 50 years, but the younger generation think we’re going to walk it and that’s it.
“Then there’s an older generation who are a bit pessimistic but on Saturday they never looked in any danger whatsoever.
“I was at the game against Wolves and spoke to a few players afterwards. They know what they’re playing for and they’re completely relaxed about it.
“You’ve never seen a bunch of people so relaxed in your life. They know what’s in front of them and they know it’ll never be done again if they do it. No one is ever going to win five in a row, so this is it.”
Gallagher will no doubt be watching on on Tuesday night as Man City face Tottenham in the knowledge that they’ll leapfrog Arsenal in the title race with a win.
