Gervonta Davis is set to return to the ring on June 15 against Frank Martin.
‘Tank’ will defend his WBA lightweight world title against Martin at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas live on Amazon Prime PPV.
Davis was elevated to full WBA champion after Devin Haney vacated the belt before moving up in weight.
Martin is ranked No.2 with the major sanctioning body and comes into the contest with an impressive unblemished record of 18-0.
The last time Davis stepped between the ropes he stopped Garcia to the body in April last year.
Shortly after getting his hand raised, the Baltimore banger spent 44 days in prison for violating the terms of a sentence which initially saw him avoid jail time.
In May last year, Davis was sentenced to 90 days of home detention, three years probation and 200 hours of community service over his November 2020 hit-and-run car crash which injured four people.
He was later found guilty of violating the terms of his home detention and as a result, was ordered to serve the rest of his 90-day sentence in jail.
However, he is now free to move on with his career after having his ankle monitor removed.
Davis initially claimed that the fight was being targeted for June 22 after indicating that the Toyota Centre in Houston, Texas – which was the originally rumoured venue for the contest – was already booked by American rapper Megan Thee Stallion on June 15.
But the fight has moved to the MGM allowing Davis and Martin to box on June 15 on an exciting PBC card.
Davis vs Martin will serve as the main event with a WBC light-heavyweight final eliminator bout between David Benavidez and Oleksandr Gvozdyk acting as chief support.
Boxing fans are desperate to see Benavidez face Canelo next but the former pound-for-pound king hasn’t shown any interest in making the fight happen.
‘The Monster’ has moved up to 175lbs after pursuing the Canelo fight to no avail.
Providing he beats Gvozdyk he will be in a primed position to challenge whoever gets their hand raised in the undisputed light-heavyweight showdown between Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev on June 1.
Meanwhile, he is also Canelo’s WBC mandatory at 168lbs as of March so should have plenty of options on the table after June 15.
Devin Haney vs Ryan Garcia will be live on talkSPORT from 4am on Sunday morning.
