West Ham fans will still want David Moyes replaced even if he masterminds a win over Bayer Leverkusen.
That is the opinion of ex-Crystal Palace chairman and talkSPORT host Simon Jordan, who has had his say on the Scotman’s future in east London.
Moyes ended West Ham’s 58-year wait for a trophy in the Europa Conference League last season, while also taking them to the Europa League quarter-finals this term.
He even has the Hammers sitting in seventh spot in the Premier League, but fans have been vocal in the need for a new manager due to his style of play.
Next up for West Ham is clash with Bundesliga champions-elect Leverkusen on Thursday night – live on talkSPORT 2 – who have yet to taste defeat in any of their 41 games this campaign.
And Jordan has claimed that the narrative from West Ham supporters will not change even if Moyes takes the club to a third European semi-final.
Co-host Jim White believes fans’ opinion of Moyes would change should they dump out Leverkusen, to which Jordan said: “I don’t think so.
“I think there are West Ham fans that have made their mind up about the style of football.”
White then stressed who cares about the style if he achieves success as he made comparisons to Jose Mourinho’s brand of football, to which Jordan remarked: “The West Ham fans, we’ve heard it.
“We’re not talking about Mourinho, we’re talking about David Moyes and we’re talking about West Ham and what seems to be a large swathe of fans that repeatedly make these observations.
“And even Danny Dyer – the ‘best footballer on the planet’ – came on [talkSPORT] and talked about the fact that the football isn’t great to watch.
“But they’re getting results, they love David Moyes for the achievements that he’s brought to West Ham and for the fact that they could have got relegated if he hadn’t had stabilised them.
“And for the fact that they won a European competition which they have never done before, and that they’re in the top eight of the Premier League which they very rarely do.
“All of that is incidental, it’s the style of football that we don’t like.
“So I don’t think he gets away [from fans wanting him gone], even if they beat Bayer Leverkusen.”
Moyes is currently tied down at the London Stadium until the end of the campaign.
The 60-year-old revealed in February that he has a new contract on the table, but he is waiting until the summer before he makes a decision.
Liverpool legend Phil Thompson recently told talkSPORT how the ex-Everton boss should walk away – insisting other clubs would be ready to snap him up.
