Zach Johnson shouted ‘f*** off’ towards patrons at the Masters after he triple-bogeyed the 12th hole on Friday.
The former Ryder Cup captain is making his 20th appearance at the iconic Augusta National Golf Club.
Johnson, who won the Masters in 2017, struggled on the 12th hole on day two of the tournament.
His first shot off the tee was lost in the trees, forcing the American to reload and hit his third shot from the tee.
But things got even worse for the 2023 Ryder Cup captain as he missed the green and failed to get up-and-down, eventually making a triple-bogey six.
Having arrived on the hole in contention to make the cut, he left on seven-over par – and some of the Augusta patrons in the gallery appeared to sarcastically applaud his short-range putt for six.
Johnson, clearly irked by this, can clearly be heard shouting ‘f*** off’ towards them after he collected his ball.
He then threw his ball to the side in anger and stormed off the green.
The back nine didn’t go to plan for Johnson who ended the second round on +7, with the cut-line currently projected at +4.
Johnson received widespread criticism as Team USA were soundly beaten by Europe at the 2023 Ryder Cup in September.
WARNING: Explicit language…
Some Americans were left disappointed by his captain’s picks and his decision-making in Rome, which appeared in stark contrast to European captain Luke Donald’s methods.
Elsewhere at Augusta, Tiger Woods broke the record for the most consecutive cuts made at the Masters after finishing the second round on one-over par.
It will be the golfing legend’s 24th successful cut in a row at the competition as he eyes an unlikely sixth title.
Woods was eight shots off the pace set by Bryson DeChambeau and Scottie Scheffler when he finished round two.
