Jason Cundy was left appalled after Tottenham fan Jamie O’Hara revealed he prefers Ange Postecoglou’s side to lose to Manchester City.
Spurs play a key role in the destination of this season’s Premier League title and a victory or draw with Pep Guardiola’s men on Tuesday, would hand bitter rivals Arsenal the opportunity to wrap up the title this weekend.
On the other hand, a win for City would put them in pole position to seal a fourth-consecutive Premier League crown but would also kill off Tottenham’s hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
Postecoglou admitted on Monday that while he recognises the importance of rivalry, he ‘will never understand if someone wants their own team to lose.’
Following Aston Villa’s 3-3 draw with Liverpool on Monday evening which left the door open to Spurs claiming a top four place, Cundy asked his talkPSORT co-host how he was feeling ahead of Tuesday’s clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
“I don’t know how I feel, I’m conflicted,” said O’Hara. “I can’t bring myself to say that I want [Tottenham to win]. I’d be lying if I said that.
“You need counselling,” Cundy joked in response. “Ange has said any Spurs fan that wants to lose tomorrow night needs counselling. He’s 100 per cent right.
“You can not want to lose tomorrow night because if Villa had beaten Liverpool, then I’d kind of understand it.
“You can get to 69 points and Aston Villa losing to Crystal Palace is not impossible therefore you can still get Champions League football.”
But Cundy’s words had no bearing on O’Hara who appeared to be at peace with Spurs losing to City and missing out on the riches of Champions League football.
“Has he not watched Spurs for the last 15 years?” O’Hara added. “I’ve needed counselling being a Spurs fan.
“I’ve got Arsenal friends, I have to deal with Arsenal people all the time. It’s alright for Ange, he’s from Australia.
“We’re not going to win the Champions League and by the way, we’ve not got a big chance of beating Man City anyway.
“He doesn’t understand what it means for men and women out there who have got to deal with Arsenal fans when they win the league and we hand them the title.”
Chelsea fan Cundy responded: “You are an absolute disgrace. You’ve got to forget Arsenal, take the bitterness away. If they win it, they win it. You’ve got to take care of your own business.”
But O’Hara had the final say and even mapped out his dream scenario.
“I’m quite happy to play in the Europa League,” he said. “Man City win the title and Arsenal finish with the same amount of trophies as Spurs. I’m happy with that.”
