A WWE star replaced a referee on tonight’s NXT after the scheduled referee was absent due to supposedly ‘mysterious’ circumstances.
On tonight’s episode of NXT there was set to be a tag team match with Tyson Dupony and Tyriek Igwe facing the No Quarter Catch Crew.
Because of the Catch Clause, it wasn’t revealed until the match was set to begin that the NCQQ members in the match would be Charlie Dempsey and Myles Borne.
With the continued storyline that the D’Angelo Family had ‘taken care of a problem’ for the No Quarter Catch Crew (writing Drew Gulak out of the group), it seemed that the Crew had still not paid their debts.
With NXT announcer Alicia Taylor getting information from Luca Crusifino at ringside, she reported out that due to the referee being “unable to attend” – and a clear implication that it was the Family’s doing – there would be a special guest referee.
It was then announced that Channing ‘Stacks’ Lorenzo from The Family would serve as the referee.
In the end, the Crew seemingly learned a lesson about running out on paying their bills as Stacks the referee was clearly biased throughout, taking his time with the three count when Dempsey was attempting to capture victory.
However, the pace was significantly faster for the subsequent three count which delivered the win to Tyson Dupont and Tyriek Igwe.
