Social media ran rife when a picture of Jurgen Klopp at Anfield alone went viral – but what was he doing there?
The Liverpool boss is in the last week of his time at the club after nine years and he will go down as a true icon of the Reds.
So when a picture of Klopp standing alone at Anfield was posted on social media, fans shared it widely and theorised that he was soaking in the scenery for one last time.
However, the truth of the matter is that the German coach was scheduled to be at Anfield for an event.
The club’s staff had thrown him a leaving do as they wanted to thank him for his service over the last nine years.
All six of the trophies he has won at Liverpool were on display as he held a Q&A with those present, with Klopp thanking the staff for the journey they have shared.
Those who attended described the ’emotional’ event as ‘an absolute privilege’ with plenty of memories and pictures taken.
Liverpool academy coach Mike Yates said on X: “An absolute privilege listening to the Boss at Anfield today, thanking and talking to all staff about managing our club, the city and its people…what a man. “We did it The Liverpool Way” Danke Jurgen.”
Liverpool’s VP of communications Craig Evans posted: “Emotional afternoon at Anfield today. Jurgen doing what Jurgen does.
“A staff event for us to thank him with a team photo and Q&A – and Jurgen somehow turns it into an event to thank all club staff from him. What an amazing human being.”
Liverpool fans are set to give Klopp a massive send-off on Sunday in the final game of the season when the Reds face Wolves.
Anfield has sold out and the volume levels are set to hit new heights as they look to give Klopp the farewell he deserves.
And the Liverpool boss has admitted he might be a tad emotional come full-time.
After Monday night’s draw against Aston Villa, Klopp said of the fans: “I have no doubt about our relationship. I appreciate that a lot.
“I can’t yet put it really into words because I have to protect myself a little bit. The emotions will come out.”
Liverpool are already guaranteed to finish third this season, making the Wolves clash a dead rubber for the Reds in terms of league position.
