The Boston Celtics can cement themselves as the most successful franchise in NBA history if they win themselves a ring this year.
Jayson Tatum and Jalen Brown have led the Celtics to an incredible season, finishing as the No.1 seed in the Eastern Conference with a 64-18 record.
It meant they went into the playoffs as the outright favourites to win the Championship and they made the perfect start against the Miami Heat.
The Celtics won 4-1 in the first round to move onto the conference semi-finals as they aim to make history by going all the way to win the Finals.
The franchise has won the joint-most championships in the history of the NBA.
They have 17 titles, level with the Los Angeles Lakers and well clear of the Golden State Warriors who have the third-most with seven.
So that means if they win a ring this year, they will become the best team of all time and they have been waiting a while to add another to their collection…
Boston Celtics’ last NBA Championship
The Celtics won their last NBA title in 2008.
They beat the Lakers 4-2 in the Finals with a team that included icons such as Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo.
That victory ended a 22-year wait for glory following their previous Championship win in 1986.
It has been another 14-year wait since their last ring and in that time, they have had their NBA record levelled by the Lakers, with their 17th title coming in 2020.
The Celtics have reached the Finals twice in search of their 18th success but they haven’t been able to get it done.
In 2010, they were beaten in Game 7 by the Lakers before a drought followed until their next shot.
Over a decade later in 2022, they made the Finals again but fell to defeat against Steph Curry and Golden State, losing 4-2.
Last year, they were knocked out by the Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals but they have now got their revenge on them in emphatic fashion.
And they continue to be the major favourites to claim a historic title win this time around.
