Wolves are set to accept West Ham’s second bid for their club captain Max Kilman, talkSPORT understands.
The Hammers have already had one offer worth £25 million rejected for the 27-year-old defender.
The London club are clearly on the lookout for new recruits at centre-back, having also had an opening bid for Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo turned down.
talkSPORT understands West Ham’s second offer for Kilman is £40 million, which falls short of Wolves’ initial valuation of £45 million but has nonetheless proved enough to push a deal through.
West Ham will begin the new campaign under the stewardship of Julen Lopetegui, who coached Kilman at Wolves.
He’s also the man who made the England centre-back club captain during the 2022/23 season and relied on him heavily as Wolves’ most-used player.
Kilman also racked up more appearances for Wanderers than any other player last season.
The London-born star has impressed so much that last summer he agreed terms on a new five-year deal, meaning any transfer won’t be cheap.
West Ham have already made one signing this summer, Luis Guilherme from Palmeiras, but their major change has been in the dugout.
David Moyes left the team after five seasons, having won the Europa Conference League in his second stint with the London club.
Last season West Ham reached the Europa League quarter-finals while finishing ninth in the Premier League.
However, in the league they conceded 74 goals, the fourth highest tally in the division, and reinforcements at the back are now a clear and obvious priority.
