Jordan Henderson has thrown his support behind England as Kyle Walker insisted the Three Lions ‘must take the positives’ from their latest outing.
England stuttered to a 1-1 draw against Denmark in their second Euro 2024 Group C clash, with Harry Kane’s opener being cancelled out by Morten Hjulmand’s long range strike.
After Kane’s 18th-minute goal, the Three Lions struggled to create clear-cut chances, an issue they faced in the second half of their 1-0 win over Serbia on Sunday.
But despite England being unable to dominate on Thursday evening, right-back Walker was keen to steer the narrative away from the negatives.
Speaking to the BBC after the game, the Manchester City star said: “We’re top of the group, so let’s try and take the positives.
“We’ve not lost. We conceded a great strike from outside the box.
“They had the upper hand in certain parts of the game, so we had to start thinking ‘what if?’
“The manager has expressed that he wants us to play attacking football, but in tournament football, you have to adapt.”
Former England midfielder Jordan Henderson, who missed out on a place in the Euro 2024 squad, backed Walker’s comments on social media.
Taking a photo of his old teammate and posting it on his story, Henderson wrote: “Well said Kyle Walker. Too much negativity!
“Get behind and trust this team!!!”
England are currently top of Group C on four points, with Slovenia and Denmark level on two points, whilst Serbia sit bottom with one.
That means the Three Lions are still favourites to go through, even without picking up all three points against the Danes.
A win against Slovenia would see them finish top of the group.
But with mega-stars Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden and other big names in their ranks, expectations are high.
England cricket captain and avid football fan Ben Stokes agreed with Walker that fans need not be too doom and gloom, though.
Taking to X, he also hit out at the negativity and wrote: “Class interview that from Kyle Walker…
“Made sure everyone heard they are top of the table but knows there is loads more to improve on, get behind the team and leave the hindsight and negativity to the pundits aye…..come on ENGLAND.”
