With both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ championships wrapped up, the attention now turns to the fight between Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez for second place in the driver standings.
However, with Max Verstappen looking in unstoppable form, winning 13 of the 19 races this season, a season record he shares with Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel, both drivers will have their work cut out for them.
Perez in particular will be looking to have a strong home race, with the Red Bull driver keen on becoming the first Mexican driver to win on home soil.
“I hope to win, I have the opportunity to do it, it would be incredible to be able to fulfil that dream in my career,” Perez said.
“Without a doubt, winning the Mexican Grand Prix matters more to me than being runner-up because winning here is a dream I’ve had since I was a child. Being runner-up in the world has never been my dream.”
Verstappen wants to continue winning run
While Perez is hopeful of winning his home race, he will have to face a ruthless Verstappen who is looking to make history.
“Checo knows what he has to do to finish second, he has to finish ahead of Charles (Leclerc),” Verstappen said.
“As a team, we always try to be first and second and, as a driver, I always want to win more races. I’m here to do the best I can. I’m more relaxed after the resolution of the championship, but I know that once I’m in the car, I always want the best.”
Given Red Bull’s superiority this year, it would be unsurprising to see either driver claim the team’s 16th win of the season.
