Thursday racing tips
- FFOS LAS
3.55: Beeley 10/11 (2pts) - NEWBURY
5.55: Bona Fortuna 9/2 Each-way (1.5pts) - SOUTHWELL
5.45: La Pulga 7/1 EW (1.5pts) & Desert Emperor 25/1 EW (1pt)
7.12: Shagpyle 11/1 EW (1pt)
Beeley
Beeley has been 2nd in all but one of her five races so far, 2nd when 5/6 favourite at Kempton in July to Fairy Glen who has turned out to be quite useful stepping up to listed company next time out.
She was then 2nd again to Sea Just Time, also at Kempton last time out earlier this month and as a result drops down as many as 4lb.
Her last effort on the turf came when she was 5th of 6 at Chester in May in the listed Cheshire Oaks, so this should be much more comfortable for her.
Consuelo is her main rival though and was a close 3rd at Haydock on her only turf start, which does put her close but will need to improve upped to 1m4f for the first time.
Bona Fortuna
Only upped 3lb for that impressive success at Windsor in July and shaped as though he’d suit the step up to 7f nicely.
Most read in Horse Racing
He’s been 2 for 2 since switching to Michael Appleby’s yard, following also a wind op and being gelded.
Rossa Ryan on board and the Mehmas gelding has plenty more to offer upped in class.
La Pulga & Desert Emperor
3lb well in and after a very close second last week at the Racing League’s fixture at Newcastle looks to be the one to follow in here.
The gelding was just half a length away out of 13 runners over an extended 1m4f and now gets Joe Fanning back on board who has been a regular rider for the Charlie Johnston-trained five-year-old.
Has a fairly strong record on the all-weather with a win and two 2nd place finishes.
He’s even stronger over this kind of trip and ought to finally get back to winning ways here.
With the Racing League there’s often a few big priced winners and there could also be one here – Desert Emperor.
The seven-year-old has often made the frame in 2nd on the all-weather but hasn’t won since December 2021.
In defeat he’s been upped in the weights for those placings but has a real chance back to 1m4f for the first time since October 2022 and has only four races to his name since then too.
Shagpyle
Not been seen on the all-weather yet but has strong stamina, going well at Ffos Las to win by a neck in June and hasn’t been seen since a respectable 5th of 10 at Newbury in a Class 2 handicap.
This Frankel filly may fare well on the all-weather and with team Wales and the East going well it wouldn’t be a surprise to see this well-rated filly land a big priced winner.
Warmonger has been upped 10lb for that latest win, and is now bidding for a four-timer.
He may find it tough to do so but certainly has the makings to win again, but at 2/1 and lower in the odds it’s seemingly better to go with the unexposed Shagpyle.
