Thierry Henry is being considered by Wales for their vacant manager’s role after Rob Page’s departure, talkSPORT understands.
The Football Association of Wales (FAW) are keen on acting swiftly to find a replacement for Page, who was sacked last Friday after three and a half years in charge.
Henry is currently the manager of France’s Under-21s and will lead his nation at the Olympics this summer in Paris.
But he has connections to Wales, having studied for his coaching badges with the FAW.
talkSPORT understands the FAW are considering Henry as a candidate to take on the role of head coach, though they have time with Wales not scheduled to play until September.
Henry would be a high-profile appointment, similar to how Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs was hired in 2018.
The Frenchman is among the biggest names to have played in the Premier League, widely regarded as one of its greatest players.
During his time at Arsenal, he won two Premier League titles, two FA Cups and finished runners-up in the Champions League in 2006.
He is also Arsenal’s all-time highest goalscorer with 228 goals after spending eight years from 1999 to 2007 in north London, as well as a short loan spell in 2012.
The France legend also won two LaLiga titles with Barcelona, as well as the Champions League, before moving to the MLS with New York Red Bulls in 2010.
While still only 46, Henry has held several positions in coaching including Under-19 coach of Arsenal, assistant at Belgium on two occasions and his current post with France Under-21s.
In senior roles, Henry took over at Monaco and Montreal Impact, though he failed to find much joy in either post.
Nevertheless, the former striker has been praised for his coaching methods and forward-thinking style.
One of his former players, Benjamin Henrichs at Monaco, praised the coach despite his short spell at the French club that lasted 20 games.
The German full-back said: “He was a really good coach. If he took over a real top team today, it would work.
“You could tell that he had so much knowledge of the subject. It was really impressive. His training was very demanding. He is simply Thierry Henry, a real legend.”
Page was sacked after Wales’ failure to reach Euro 2024 with a miserable 0-0 draw against Gibraltar in a friendly proving the final straw.
During his spell in charge, the Dragons reached a first World Cup in 64 years, as well as reaching the second round of Euro 2020.
