The LIV circuit has returned to the United States this week, with Jon Rahm and the rest of those tied to the Saudi-funded breakaway tour teeing up in LIV Golf Miami.
Most of the talk in the golfing world is centred on next week’s Masters – the first Major of the season – and there are 13 players competing in LIV Golf Miami who will soon be bound for Augusta National.
Bryson DeChambeau, Sergio Garcia, Tyrrell Hatton, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Adrian Meronk, Phil Mickelson Joaquin Niemann, Jon Rahm, Patrick Reed, Charl Schwartzel, Cameron Smith and Bubba Watson will all play in LIV Golf Miami before moving north to Georgia for the Masters.
We have analysed LIV Golf Miami and picked out two players who could be the leading contenders for glory at Trump National Doral Golf Club. The 7,701-yard, par-72 course staged a PGA Tour event for many years, before it hosted the WGC-Cadillac Championship from 2007 to 2016.
In the previous two years, the LIV Golf season has ended with the LIV Team Championship at Trump National. Rahm, who is 6/1 to win this week, has never competed at Trump National. The 29-year-old is seeking a maiden LIV Golf title.
LIV Golf Miami Tips
Dustin Johnson to win & each-way @ 14/1
LIV Golf Miami appears a golden opportunity for Dustin Johnson to remind the world that he is a huge Masters threat. The former world number one could go close to winning both events.
Johnson won the last LIV tournament staged in America – LIV Las Vegas – then did not play as badly as results suggest in Jeddah and Hong Kong. An ice-cold putter in Jeddah meant strong approach-play was wasted, while Hong Kong Golf Club is an unusual venue on which DJ has little experience.
The 39-year-old lives in Florida and knows Trump National well. The course was redesigned by Gil Hanse before the 2014 WGC-Cadillac Championship there, then Johnson finished fourth, first and 14th in the three subsequent Cadillac Championships.
Johnson also captained his 4 Aces side to victory in the inaugural LIV Golf Team Championship in 2022, so he has twice lifted a trophy at Trump National.
LIV Golf Miami: Bryson DeChambeau to win & each-way @ 10/1
Another American powerhouse who will feel confident that he could be about to have a fabulous fortnight is Bryson DeChambeau, who won the US Open in 2020 and knows he can be a threat in Major competition.
DeChambeau overpowered another Florida track – Bay Hill – when he won his last PGA Tour title in 2021. The cocksure Californian has won twice on the LIV circuit since leaving the PGA Tour behind and he could easily complete a hat-trick at Doral.
Fourth place in LIV Jeddah was a positive sign for DeChambeau fans, while seventh spot in Hong Kong was a decent effort on an unsuitable layout. Self-belief is flooding into big Bryson’s veins just in time for Majors season.
DeChambeau led his Crushers side to victory in the LIV Golf Miami Team Championship at Trump National last year.
