Bet of the day
Middlesbrough to beat Leeds @ 9/2
There is no doubt Leeds have the squad to be a major force in the Championship this season, but there has been a fair bit of upheaval at Elland Road in the summer and Middlesbrough may catch the Whites cold in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.
Leeds played well, but had to settle for a 3-3 draw with newly promoted Portsmouth at the weekend and the Whites’ defensive line looked particularly vulnerable throughout that contest.
Boro were comfortably the better side when they beat Swansea 1-0, putting up an expected goals number of 2.86 and not allowing the Swans a single shot on target.
Michael Carrick’s men have the structure and discipline to outrun odds of 9/2 at Elland Road.
Special of the day
Real Madrid to win & over 2.5 goals @ 23/20
Last season’s Champions League winners Real Madrid tackle Europa League heroes Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday night and Real look good value to win a high-scoring contest.
Carlo Ancelotti has a whole host of talent at his disposal with Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo and summer signing Kylian Mbappe all in line to start in Warsaw and this is a fearsome Los Blancos side.
Real scored 26 goals in their final ten matches of last term and they can pick up where they left off against Atalanta.
The Italians upset and broke the control of Leverkusen in the Europa League final, but a frantic and frenzied contest will suit Real Madrid, should Atalanta adopt the same game plan in Warsaw.
Long shot of the day
Cheltenham to beat Plymouth @ 15/4
Plymouth were hammered 4-0 by Sheffield Wednesday on the opening day of the Championship season and things may get worse for the Pilgrims when Cheltenham visit Home Park in the EFL Cup first round.
Wayne Rooney’s men lost the shot count 31-5, the corner count 15-1 and the xG figures finished 4.68-0.23 in favour of Wednesday.
Those are damning numbers and there have to be major question marks over Rooney’s managerial abilities.
