Bet of the day
Sheffield Wednesday to beat Plymouth – 4/5
Both of these teams just about managed to avoid relegation from the Championship last term, but Sheffield Wednesday look more likely to make a positive impression in the second tier this term and they can get their campaign off to a winning start against Plymouth.
The Owls, who were galvanised in the second half of the season by manager Danny Rohl, won four and drew two of their final six matches to stay up by a three-point margin, and the Yorkshire outfit will see this as a clean slate upon which to register an improved campaign.
Plymouth have appointed Wayne Rooney as their new manager despite the former England captain enduring a difficult time at Birmingham, and just 16 of their 51 points last season came on their travels.
That could be difficult to immediately rectify against a team who lost just four of their final 16 games last term, with three of those defeats coming against champions Leicester, promoted Ipswich and third-placed Leeds, so take the Owls to make a winning start at Hillsborough.
Special of the day
Scottish Premiership treble – Celtic, Aberdeen & Kilmarnock all to win – 3/1
There are three Scottish Premiership games on Sunday and there looks a strong chance that all three odds-on favourites will come through to claim a victory in the second round of league matches north of the border.
Champions Celtic got their campaign off to the perfect start with a 4-0 win over Kilmarnock and they should have far too much for Hibs, who started with a 3-0 defeat at St Mirren last week.
The Buddies will hope to build on that at Aberdeen, but the Dons have been flying under new manager Jimmy Thelin and could have won their opener at St Johnstone by a wider margin had they not conceded a late own goal and missed a penalty.
Complete the treble by including Kilmanock, who should bounce back from their heavy loss at Parkhead to see off a St Johnstone side who are expected to struggle.
Long shot of the day
Sivasspor to beat Trabzonspor – 23/10
Sivasspor finished seventh in the Turkish Super Lig last season and they represent a tough opening trip for Trabzonspor, who were third last time.
The home side lost just two of their final 14 home games last season in a run that saw them beat Besiktas and earn draws against the top two, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce.
Trabzon also found out how difficult a visit it can be as they were pushed all the way in a 3-3 draw in November, so it is worth chancing that Sivasspor can claim a notable early scalp.
