Joel Dahmen made fans for life at the WM Phoenix Open by continuing a fine tradition to a roaring crowd at Scottsdale.
Since 2015, Ryan Palmer has tossed golf balls into the crowd on the infamous 16th hole – a den of debauchery – with money attached and a note.
The note would tell fans to ‘enjoy a cold one on me’ at the notoriously rowdy WM Phoenix Open, which allows fans to go wild.
However, Palmer failed to make the cut this year, leaving fans disappointed at the prospect of missing out on the yearly tradition.
But Dahmen, who finished tied in 41st place, stepped up in his absence, recreating the tradition by throwing his own golf balls into a raucous crowd.
One topless fan caught the package before opening it on camera in front of his buddies on a damp day at TPC Scottsdale.
One of his pals can be heard saying: “No way!”
Opening the package to reveal the money and a note, he read it out: “Enjoy a cold one on me.”
It led to further hoots and hollering from the fans before revealing the note to the camera.
“And the shirt too. Joel Dahmen! What a beast. He makes this tournament. He makes it,” the fan shouted.
Dahmen has already solidified his legendary status among the fans when in 2022, he and Harry Higgs infamous took their shirts off at the 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale.
In an episode of ‘The Full Swing’ on Netflix, Dahmen was seen downing a few cans of White Claw in between qualifying rounds of the US Open.
The WM Phoenix Open has garnered a reputation for its debased scenes with fans getting boozy over the week’s event.
Alcohol sales needed to be stopped at one point after reports of 30 people blacking out, while some fans have taken the drinking a step too far by affecting the players.
There have been incidents of fans heckling players before they take their shots with Jordan Spieth among those targeted.
Zach Johnson also clashed with inebriated fans after being jeered before taking a shot.
And there have also been videos circulating of fans urinating on the golf course in broad daylight, fights in the crowd and topless patrons sliding down muddy hills soaked in alcohol.
