Ryder Cup hero Robert MacIntyre put Europe’s winning score on his caddie’s bib at the Valspar Championship.
The Scot is competing at the PGA Tour event alongside USA stars Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas, as well as losing captain Zach Johnson.
MacIntyre took advantage of a unique rule which allows players to write whatever they want on their caddie’s bid for one week only.
His looper, Mike Burrows, was pictured with ‘EUR16.5-11.5USA’ splashed across his back on day one in Florida.
Ryder Cup Europe posted on X, formerly known as Twitter: “He’s only gone and done it. We approve.”
Meanwhile, Team USA hit back: “Never too soon to start thinking about Bethpage in 2025.”
The official PGA Tour account simply wrote: “Too soon?”
MacIntyre is yet to taste defeat at the Ryder Cup after a stunning debut in September 2023.
The 27-year-old arrived in Rome with question marks over his form but delivered 2.5 points from his three matches.
MacIntyre formed a prolific partnership with veteran Justin Rose, claiming a crucial half point from Max Homa and Wyndham Clark, before beating superstar duo Spieth and Thomas.
The world no.74 also took down US Open champion Clark in the final singles match on Sunday as Luke Donald’s men regained the famous trophy.
An opening round of one-under par at the Valspar Championship, where Europe captain Luke Donald is also competing, put MacIntyre six shots adrift of leader Kevin Streelman.
