Phil Foden’s dream night turned into a nightmare as he hobbled off injured at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The Manchester City star was perfect at home at one of football’s most iconic homes as he took a starring role in the Champions League quarter-final clash on Tuesday night.
As well as wreaking havoc for the Real Madrid defence, Foden was responsible for arguably the best goal of the night as he let fly with a vicious left-footed effort into the top corner of the net to make it 2-2.
That strike came after Bernardo Silva gave City the lead and Eduardo Camavinga and Rodrygo pushed the game in Real Madrid’s favour.
Josko Gvardiol made it 3-2, before Federico Valverde made it 3-3 in a quite stunning second half of action, but as Foden looked to find a winner, he went down with a troubling injury.
After receiving treatment, the England star hobbled off the pitch shaking his head as he was replaced by Julian Alvarez on 87 minutes.
While looking concerned, Foden did appear on the pitch at full-time with his teammates as they shook hands with their opponents and applauded the traveling fans.
He could be seen holding his right boot, but appeared in relatively good spirits as he smiled and waved to the fans.
With the final score at 3-3, the two sides will battle it out for a spot in the semi-finals when they face off at the Etihad Stadium next week.
