The 2023-24 NHL regular season is coming to an end this week. Because of this, the NHL has announced one nominee from each team for the 2023-24 King Clancy Memorial Trophy.
The King Clancy Memorial Trophy is given “to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.”

The winner of the King Clancy Memorial Trophy will be given a $25,000 donation to spend on the charity of charities of their choosing. The winner will also have the opportunity to let their team receive a grant of up to $20,000 to help with their humanitarian contributions.
The King Clancy Memorial Trophy was first given to Hockey Hall of Famer Lanny McDonald for the 1987-88 season.
Other legends who have won the award include Bryan Trottier, Kevin Lowe, Ray Bourque, Ron Francis, Brendan Shanahan, Jarome Iginla, Daniel Sedin, Henrik Sedin, Daniel Alfredsson and Patrice Bergeron.
Pekka Rinne, P.K. Subban, and Mikael Backlund, in order, are recent winners of the King Clancy Memorial Trophy.
When it comes to selecting this year’s King Clancy winner, a selection committee made by Gary Bettman and former winners will make the final decision. The committee will also consider the nominees’ “inspiration, involvement, and impact” in their communities.
