Wolves are confident of snapping up Southampton striker Che Adams, talkSPORT understands.
Scotland international Adams is set to leave Saints on a free transfer when his contract expires in the summer.
And Wolves boss Gary O’Neil is keen to take him to Molineux to bolster the Midlands outfit’s attacking line.
O’Neil recently stated that Wolves do not have a lot of funds at their disposal this summer, with Adams seen as an attractive option due to him costing nothing from July 1.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of his side’s 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace, he said: “I don’t think there will be money available to us if nobody leaves.”
O’Neil added: “I wouldn’t expect it to be a summer where we spend millions of the club’s own money on players.
“I think it won’t be the same as last year where we have to sell loads and make a huge profit, but I wouldn’t expect it to be a spending spree.”
Adams, who arrived at Southampton in 2019 from Birmingham in a £15million swoop, came close to departing St Mary’s last year when Everton tabled a £12m bid for the 27-year-old’s services.
But the south coast side turned down the offer, instead wanting to keep the centre-forward in their bid to secure instant promotion back to the Premier League.
The ex-Blues marksman has impressed this campaign – chipping in with 18 goals in all competitions.
His 16 Championship strikes have helped fire the Saints into the play-offs, where he missed the semi-final first leg clash against West Brom due to injury.
And in a boost for Southampton, boss Russell Martin has confirmed he is hopeful the centre-forward will be available to face the Baggies in Friday night’s second leg, live on talkSPORT.
He remarked: “I think there was hope he would be ready for this one, but the risk outweighs the reward.
“It was quite soon after the game [at Leeds in final Championship match]. He’s been working. He’s been doing everything he possibly can.
“We’ll get him on the training pitch over the next days and see how he reacts. He’s important.”
Should Southampton get past the Baggies then a Wembley date with Leeds or Norwich will await in the play-off final on Sunday May 26.
