Golf star Shane Lowry was left crying his heart out after an interviewer admitted she did not know who Oasis are.
The Irishman is competing in the PGA Tour’s season-ending Tour Championship at East Lake – which begins on Thursday, live on talkSPORT 2.
Ahead of the event, American broadcaster Ali Mac asked Lowry who his dream celebrity drinking buddy would be.
He named Liam Gallagher and Noel Gallagher, who recently sent supersonic shockwaves through the UK by reforming legendary band Oasis and ending a 15-year row.
However, Mac was left totally oblivious by Lowry’s answer, resulting in the following exchange…
Ali Mac: “If you could have a drink with any celebrity and pick their brains, who would it be and why?”
Shane Lowry: “I’d love to have a drink with Oasis. You know Oasis are back together? You know who Oasis are?”
Ali Mac: “I don’t even know. No.”
Shane Lowry: “You don’t even know who Oasis are!? Oh my God! You’re obviously way younger than me. Like, this is the biggest new ever. You need to look them up after this.”
Ali Mac: “I’m so sorry. I’l do that immediately after this. I just ruined this whole interview.”
As the pair burst into laughter, Lowry even turned around to people off camera and said: “She doesn’t know who Oasis are!”
Tickets for the Dublin gigs, taking place next August, go on sale at 8am (IST) on Saturday – which is 3am in Atlanta – so we expect there may be a sleepless night on the cards for Lowry mid-tournament.
The world no.32 faces an uphill battle at the unique PGA Tour event in Georgia this week.
Scottie Scheffler begins the Tour Championship on 10-under par to reflect his lead at the top of the FedEx Cup standings.
Xander Schauffele will commence the tournament two shots back on eight-under par, while Lowry starts seven shots adrift on three-under par.
It is Lowry’s first time playing in the handicapped format, having never qualified for the Tour Championship before.
The former Open champion said: “In my head, I see it as like a five-round event.
“I’ve got 3-under the first round, and I’m seven back of the leader, and I need to pick away at that over the four days and see where it leaves me on Sunday.”
