Roma’s Serie A clash with Udinese has been abandoned after Roma defender Evan Ndicka collapsed off the ball.
Ndicka was taken off by medical staff in the 74th minute of the match on Sunday and the decision was taken to abandon the game.
The 24-year-old was seen going to the ground holding his chest while Roma were in possession.
The game was at 1-1 when it was suspended.
Players and staff from both teams spoke to the officials before coming to the decision. Fans from both clubs applauded the decision.
It’s not been confirmed what the nature of Ndicka’s health problem is but the players has already received a number of well-wishing messages.
One said: “Thoughts and prayers with Evan Ndicka.”
Another said: “Thoughts are with Ndicka and his friends and family as he’s stretchered off due to collapsing on the pitch. Get well soon.”
This fan said: “Forza Evan Ndicka! We are all with you brother.”
While another added: “Prayers up for Ndicka.”
Udinese took the lead through a goal scored by former Watford man Roberto Pereyra before Romelu Lukaku levelled the match shortly before Ndicka went down.
Roma came into the game sitting in fifth place, four points adrift of Bologna in fourth.
Udinese, meanwhile, went into the clash in 15th spot, just a point above the relegation zone.
