The Masters has issued a weather update as severe storms hit the Southeast of the United States.
The prestigious tournament, which will feature Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, announced on social media that fan admission will be delayed on Thursday because of adverse weather conditions in the area.
“Due to forecasted weather on Thursday, we have decided to delay all gate openings in the morning,” the Masters posted. “All Masters free parking will be closed until further notice while gate openings are delayed.”
Anxious fans awaited further updates as they looked forward to the return of the major, which was won by Jon Rahm last year.
“Ugh, I hate weather delays,” one fan posted.
“For the love of God please have them start on 1 and 10 so we don’t have them playing 29 holes Friday or Saturday,” a second fan tweeted.
“LIV wins again,” a third fan joked.
This is not the first time that serious weather has impacted play at Augusta National.
In 2023, huge trees suddenly fell on the course and almost hit fans watching the tournament.
No one was injured by the trees crashing but spectators and course members quickly rushed to the area to check on the surreal scene.
The Augusta area had a wind advisory on Thursday morning, with rain predicted at 100 percent and a risk of severe weather.
Thunderstorms were supposed to occur during the morning hours, while storms could contain strong and gusty winds.
Wednesday was a great weather day at Augusta, as Bubba Watson’s daughter showed off impressive golfing skills with an excellent putt at the Par 3 Contest.
Players invite their wives, girlfriends and children to join them on the course as the excitement builds up for the upcoming weekend.
Once first-round play officially begins, Woods is scheduled to join Jason Day and Max Homa on the course.
McIlroy is grouped with Xander Schauffele and world number one Scottie Scheffler.
“Just play in the rain,” one fan tweeted.
“Models show it done raining by 10am,” a second fan posted. “Only be delayed a couple hours.”
Another update from Augusta chiefs is expected before 5am local time.
