Ryan Garcia has fired a vicious pre-fight warning at Devin Haney.
The pair were set to meet with the WBC super-lightweight title on the line, but Garcia missed the 140lbs weight limit by 3lbs and as a result Haney’s belt is no longer up for grabs.
Garcia and Haney have been embroiled in a bitter feud ahead of their showdown, and the 25-year-old has attempted to play mind games with just hours before their encounter.
‘King Ry’ arrived to the Barclays Center in New York, in a customised T-shirt with a message which read: “Murder on my mind.”
On the back of the garment, it read: “Rip Devin Haney, 1999-2024.
Fans were quick to point out that Haney was actually born in 1998, and the t-shirt was factually wrong.
Garcia then continued his bizarre warm-up ritual, by warming up in front of a string quartet, who played the violin in his dressing room.
It is yet another attempt at Garcia at getting under Haney’s skin, with the WBC champion trying to remain calm throughout the build-up.
Garcia has concerned the boxing world with his behaviour during the fight build-up, with even his ex-wife weighing in on his antics.
It is a big moment in the career of the talented star, who is looking to record his second win since losing to Gervonta Davis in April 2023.
During their first face-off atop the Empire State Building, the pair clashed with Haney shoving Garcia in a heated exchange.
Garcia and Haney then shook hands on a $500,000 bet based on their final weights, with the latter claiming Garcia paid him the sum per pound he missed the 140lbs limit – a total of $1,500,000.
The challenger tipped the scales at 143lbs, but organisers rattled out a deal in order for the fight to go ahead.
In bizarre fashion, Garcia celebrated his missed target on social media, tweeting: “Three pounds is nothing stop crying.”
He later continued: “I feel great and I got a three pound advantage, let’s go. Winners do what they have to do I’m still sharp.
“F*** all that. Viva Mexico. We’re leaving with his head, the belts will always be there.
“My balls got too heavy, and back gained to much muscle from carrying the promo, and my fingers got stronger from all the tweets damn.”
