Ryan Garcia has confirmed he bet on himself to beat Devin Haney and won big.
Garcia pulled off a major upset as he dropped Haney three times en route to a dramatic majority decision win on Saturday night at the Barclays Centre in New York.
‘King Ry’ gave up around $600,000 to Haney on the scales after missing weight by 3.2lbs but according to the 25-year-old he earned around $50m in total from the fight.
The majority of that money will have come from his purse and any other endorsements he signed before the bout.
But a large chunk of his earnings were generated from a $2m bet he placed on himself to win the fight.
During the DAZN broadcast, the commentators claimed Garcia had cashed in $12m at 6/1 odds.
And now, Garcia has confirmed this to be the case on social media.
Taking to Instagram, he wrote: “If you bet, bet on yourself on top of what we made. Eating Good.
“About 50 million ( probably more )in one night not too shabby
“I will let God guide me on how to use this money, Amen.”
The post included a picture of Garcia on fight night with a screenshot of a tweet reading: “Ryan Garcia reportedly bet $2m on himself to defeat Devin Haney and was paid out $12m.”
Garcia’s stock has risen ten fold after beating Haney and he now has several options on the table for his next fight.
A rematch with Haney was teased by both fighters in the immediate aftermath while Garcia has also called out Conor Benn on X.
On Saturday night, Garcia received a congratulatory message from Benn, who expressed a willingness to face ‘Flash’ or Haney next.
He tweeted: “Great performance from Garcia I called it.
“Credit to Devin Haney for getting up off the floor 3 times. I will fight any of these guys.”
Garcia then fired back by suggesting he and Benn box at the O2 Arena before aiming a violent threat at the Brit.
He replied: “Let’s run it in London at the 02. I will fracture your SPLEEN and then eat it. Shoutout London.”
