Birdman each way – 3.05
Jessica Harrington is represented by the unbeaten BIRDMAN who looks a solid each-way player in the Queen’s Vase. The son of Free Eagle showed good reserves of stamina when staying on well to win over 1m5f in a Listed assignment at Navan last time out, and shapes as though he will relish this extra furlong a stiff track here.
He looks versatile in regards to underfoot conditions, and this step up to Group 2 company looks well within the reach of Birdman who does bring the “could be anything” factor to the table. With the scope for any amount of improvement from this sort who has untapped potential, he can easily get involved at the business end of proceedings here.

Inspiral – 4.25
It is probably make or break for INSPIRAL, but in what is arguably a below par renewal of the race, the filly can pounce back at a track where she has a good record, and this step back up to 10f could be an inspired move. She had a fantastic time of things last season, and so you can forgive her seasonal reappearance run, where she was too flat to be true in coming fourth in the lockinge.
That was her first start for 196 days, and so naturally she should be a lot sharper and strip fitter for this assignment after that ring-rust removal job. As he has got older, it is possible she has lost a little bit of the ‘zip’ that she had in her youth, and so heading back up to 10f should be fine – she has only tackled this distance once – admittedly on a faster track at the Breeders’ Cup, but I think 10f looks the smart option. Kiernan Shoemark takes the ride on the John Gosden representative and a return to winning ways is on the cards.
Holloway Boy each way – 5.05
HOLLOWAY BOY could be capable of running well at an each-way price as he drops into Handicap company for the first time. The lightly-raced 4-year-old is no stranger to upsets, as he did exactly that at this meeting two years ago when winning on his racecourse debut at odds of 40/1 in the Chesham Stakes. That was a quite remarkable performance, and he also ran well at this meeting last year when staying-on to come fourth in the Group 3 Jersey Stakes.
He hasn’t quite hit top gear so far this season, but the return to a much quicker surface will suit, after getting bogged down in the mud on a couple of occasions. He is still relatively unexposed, and off a mark of 105, could have a lot more to offer returning to the venue where he has produced his best two career performances. Stepping back up to 1m looks a positive move at this stage of his career, and he could easily cause a minor upset.

Don’t forget Ed will be back tomorrow with his value bets for Thursday’s action, as well as his big race preview for the Ascot Gold Cup!
