Rory McIlory gave Lucas Glover a scare at the Genesis Invitational as he struggled in California.
The Northern Irishman starts the final round on -4, ten shots back from leader and Ryder Cup rival Patrick Cantlay.
On Saturday night, though, as he sat on the periphery due to his opening round of 74, he broke golfing etiquette.
Clearly wanting to get himself back to the clubhouse to regroup, the 34-year-old felt the need for speed.
However, ahead of himself and Adam Scott were Glover, on the fairway, and Ludvig Aberg on the 15th.
McIlroy appeared to assume the coast was clear and struck a 323 yard shot down the middle.
Glover, though, had only made 289 with his first shot on the same hole.
And he then saw McIlroy’s ball bounce by him.
Glover spotted the errant shot and glared back towards the tee before marching off to where his ball lay.
McIlroy was then informed about the incident and appeared shocked when he realised what had occured.
Luckily, no damage was done and the only further hitch for the Northern Irishman bogeyed the 16th, before collecting a birdie the hole after.
McIlroy’s incident wasn’t the most controversial of the weekend though.
That accolade went to Jordan Spieth who was disqualified on Friday for signing an incorrect scorecard.
Spieth signed for three but struck a four on No.4 and after the decision acknowledged his mistake.
“Today, I signed for an incorrect scorecard and stepped out of the scoring area, after thinking I went through all procedures to make sure it was correct,” he wrote.
“Rules are rules, and I take full responsibility,”
