Cameron Grimes was released from WWE and has suggested that his ‘to the moon’ gimmick informed his business acumen.
Described as an ‘unexpected release‘ by WWE sources, Grimes’ release was separate from the round on April 19 that saw former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal, Veer, Sanga, Xyon Quinn, Xia Li and Von Wagner let go.
Grimes revealed that he had been released by WWE on April 23, 2024, in an emotional video.
During a recent episode of Busted Open Radio, Grimes reflected on his stock market gimmick and how it influenced his understanding of the business world, saying:
“Starting the stock market gimmick, it made me see businesses in a different light.
“Following these companies and playing with stocks, I would see things in a different light.
“So I knew [after being called up] that I hadn’t worked in over a year and I’m making a decent salary.
“I knew that if somebody was to look at the books, I’m going to be the first person who’s going to be cut.”
Grimes was called up the main roster from NXT during the 2023 WWE Draft in was assigned to SmackDown.
His last match came on April 12, losing to Bron Breakker on that evening’s episode of SmackDown.
During his time in NXT, Grimes became the North American Champion and held the Million Dollar Championship, introduced by The Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase.
Following his WWE release, Grimes revealed that Logan Paul had reached out to him.
Grimes also revealed a conversation with a “high executive” before his release where he was told he “would never have to worry about losing [his] job.”
