So the Boston Bruins really went there, didn’t they?
After an 8-9-3 start, the Bruins fired Jim Montgomery, a coach who had compiled a .715 points percentage with them. Well, you can see why, since the last time they fired their coach, it turned out so well.
It’s pretty common to take a coach’s side in these things, in fact it’s almost as easy an out as firing a coach after a bad start. But really, did the Bruins actually think Montgomery was the problem?
Whether or not they get the “new coach bump” from Joe Sacco, who takes over on an interim basis, remains to be seen. But the Bruins will almost certainly turn things around. They’ll start scoring more, Jeremy Swayman will stop more pucks, and the Bruins will be fine in the long run.
And a really good coach who had a bad stretch will be looking for work and will probably find it.
