The Elyria South Baseball Camp hosted its first winter camp clinic Nov. 19 at the South Recreation Center, 101 South Park Drive in Elyria.
More than 50 boys and girls attended the first clinic, according to Aric Bowens, president of the South Baseball Club.
The free winter camp clinics will take place from 6-8 p.m., Fridays, from Dec. 2 to March 31.
The camp is open to youngsters age 7 and older.
There are limited spots available, Bowens said.
“We respect wrestling and basketball season,” he said. “Please come if you can.”
Elyria High School head varsity baseball coach Jordan Connell, who was appointed to the post earlier this year, participated in the first camp.
Connell graduated from Elyria High School in 2014 where he earned varsity letters in baseball and football.
Bowens and the coaching staff, including Connell and former Elyria High baseball coach Ed Piazza, who next year will lead the Rocky River High baseball team, worked with the youngsters to improve their skills.
The coaches said they gave the young players an intro to the camp and discussed character, did body warmup and drills, which included foot movement and no glove drills.
The players also watched game improvement videos, Bowens said.
