Mike Tyson’s former sparring partner Joe Egan wants to fight Logan Paul.
The seven-time Irish amateur boxing champion is keen to book his place on the upcoming Tyson vs Jake Paul undercard on July 20 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
After failing to secure a grudge match with John Fury, Egan has turned his attention to Jake’s brother Logan.
Taking to social media, the 59-year-old ex-pro sent a video message to the YouTube star.
“Hello Logan Paul, my name is Joe Egan,” he said. “I’m seven times Irish boxing champion and sparring partner to the great Mike Tyson.
“Your brother Jake Paul is going to get in and box. I admire that man so much for having the courage to box one of the most ferocious punchers of our era.
“Now, listen, John Fury hasn’t got any courage. I stepped forward and he didn’t want to know.
“Soft as s*** John Fury. You like your brother, I’m sure have courage so why don’t you get in, and me and you can box.
“You boxed that Dillon [Danis] the cage fighter and you gave him a savage beating. I know he offended you and you did right to give the man a beating.
“I won’t offend you in any way, it will just be two fighting men getting in and exchanging punches – and the best man will win on the night.
“Really look forward to hearing from you Logan, and when you speak to your brother Jake wish him all the very best. God bless you both.”
Egan was one of Tyson’s main sparring partners when they were both teenagers.
After impressing former two-time heavyweight world champion Floyd Patterson during a training camp in Atlantic City, Egan was asked to join the Catskills Boxing Gym in New York, where he lived and trained with Tyson for two years.
He clearly made a big impression on ‘Iron Mike’, who dubbed him “the toughest white man on the planet” – the title of Egan’s 2005 autobiography.
However, Egan has recently admitted that compliment from Tyson wasn’t entirely accurate.
Speaking on the George Groves Boxing Club, he said: “Far, far, far from it. I was the toughest white man in the gym that day. But what a compliment from a man like Mike Tyson. I got battered by Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis but I stayed on my feet with the two best heavyweights of my era.
“I talk about it a lot but I’ve earned the right to talk about it. If you’re going to get battered, you might as well get battered by the best.”
Egan retired from professional boxing 20 years ago with a 3-1 record but has since been embroiled in a bitter feud with Tyson Fury’s father John.
The Irish puncher has campaigned for a fight with Fury Sr to no avail and has finally given up on calling him out.
Now, he hopes to duke it out with a man 31 years his junior.
Paul, a famous content creator and WWE superstar, has boxed four times including an exhibition bout with Floyd Mayweather.
In his most recent outing, last October, he beat Dillon Danis via disqualification after the MMA star shot for a takedown in the sixth and final round.
Paul’s other two fights were against British YouTuber KSI with the inaugural encounter ending in a draw and the rematch being ruled in his adversary’s favour.
