The Arrow McLaren IndyCar squad has ended its alliance with Juncos Hollinger Racing in the wake of a social media death threats row.
Following an on-track incident at the Detroit Grand Prix last weekend between Arrow McLaren’s Theo Pourchaire and Juncos Hollinger’s Agustin Canapino, Pourchaire declared he received death threats on social media.
McLaren Group CEO Zak Brown also hit out at the abuse, labelling it as “sad and pathetic”.
Canapino issued a response to the claim, stating he has “not seen a single death threat directed at those who claim to have received them”.
He went on to add that he too “constantly receives abuse and hate” but has “learned to live with it as many people do, choosing to ignore it”.
Following the online retort, Arrow McLaren confirmed that it has ended its relationship with Juncos.
The two entered into a strategic partnership late last year.
“Arrow McLaren IndyCar Team has terminated its commercial alliance with Juncos Hollinger Racing, effective immediately,” the statement read.
“This decision follows actions that occurred earlier this week on social media in regards to an on-track incident at the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix.
“As reflected in the team’s social media community code, Arrow McLaren will not tolerate any form of abuse or discrimination and totally condemns the online abuse directed toward our team and driver.”
