Manchester United fans have called for Raphael Varane to stay after his inspired performance in their FA Cup final victory.
The defender played his final game for the club in their 2-1 win over Manchester City after announcing he will leave in the summer.
Varane joined United from Real Madrid in 2021 but much of his spell at Old Trafford has been hampered by various injury issues.
But despite a lack of fitness this season too, he was named in the starting XI against City at Wembley and will leave the club on a high.
The Frenchman played the full 90 minutes of United’s win and his vast experience at the top of the game was on full show.
Varane helped to limit City to just four shots on target throughout and fans on X started to express their wishes for him to stay.
talkSPORT’s Mark Goldbridge said: “Varane the Warrior! Still on after 75 minutes. Shouldn’t be leaving.”
A second responded: “I honestly agree with you. United shouldn’t let him leave. He may be injury prone but he is still world class.”
A third added: “Varane was immense. Weird that a four time Champions League winner would be so undervalued but he’s had two really good years imo. Would’ve loved for him to stay.”
“Can we convince Varane to stay another season PLEASE man,” asked a fourth as United prepare to say farewell to the centre-back.
Varane’s appearance was his 95th in total across three years for United, with 32 of those coming this season.
He will leave the club with two trophies to his name as their FA Cup triumph follows their League Cup success from last year.
Their latest victory marks a strong end to what has been a poor campaign overall and one that could be Erik ten Hag’s last at United.
talkSPORT understands he is not guaranteed to keep his job at the club despite winning the FA Cup.
Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo’s first-half goals were enough to beat City despite Jeremy Doku’s late consolation finish.
